Looks like Nickie was almost destined for greatness. By Horse of the Year Curlin, he was a $50,000 yearling at Keeneland in 2013. Hopes were high as he trained for his debut. He made his first start at the prestigious Gulfstream meet on January 4 of his three-year-old year in a Maiden Special Weight event. His connections were sure he was going to be a winner. But he so bitterly disappointed, finishing ninth in a field of 12, they ran him back in two weeks in a modest claiming event. However, the second try was a charm. Nickie ran a scintillating race, stalking the leaders and then bullying his way through on the rail to win going away!
He was now eligible for the lucrative Starter Series as he began his racing career. For three more starts, he showed courage and tenacity finishing second and a pair of thirds in his next three tries. But then, disaster struck. In the fourth start after "breaking his maiden," Nickie was jostled around in a rough run race. He still managed to finish third but suffered a career-ending injury in the running of the race. He's been given thorough recovery time and will be available for adoption soon.
Someone will get the horse of a lifetime with this adoption. Nickie is a fun-loving boy always looking for something interesting to do. He's a handsome fella too! And he knows it. He loves to be fussed over and made to look even more handsome. He's a true people-lover and will do almost anything for praise. Just give him a job to do and he'll be dedicated to you forever! Take a look. You won't be disappointed.
